TRIBUTE TO A PIPER
GySgt. Francis H. Killeen, USMC (Ret)
A/1/7 Chosin
The Division has gone up the trail they call the road;
A/1/7 has the point, unaware of what lies ahead.
But fear not. They have a piper who carries that extra load.
Its not far now boys, to the place where history will abound;
A fellow named "Timmy" is with these Marines
As the valley echo with the bagpipe sound.
Soon it will be a different tune,
With whistles and bugles in the air.
Flares will reveal the enemy as they advance through everywhere.
A/1/7 is still intact, though the conflict is in doubt,
Timmy still has his courage...
And his pipes he kept throughout.
Triumph has emerged as the column advances toward the sea;
The victory over many has been presented far and wide.
Here comes the 1st Marine Division,
With the piper by it's side.
Many along the way were frozen, wounded and dead;
But the Division was intact with A/1/7 in it's stead.
so the claim to fame is honored;
Now all can proudly raise their head.
The piper's tune is silent now;
The sounds are not so keen.
But close your eyes and listen....
The tones are playing as before
On a vast and glorious shore,
By God's own piper, Francis "Timmy" Killeen.
