The rest of the story --
Three true Anecdotes by Jack Nichols

While we were chasing the remnants of an NKPA division in the Andong area during January of '51 one of our machine gunners came down with a venereal disease. Gene Hovatter, our skipper debated writing him up for a Captain's Mast to recommend for a Letter of Commendation; not knowing where he could get it.

During the spring of '51 a Marine replacement got tired of doing battle against the forces of Chairman Mao and General Sung and during the night shot himself in the foot. That's the bad news. The worse news is that it took him two shots to hit it!

You might recall at that time the WCTU got all upset about the troops fighting in Korea having access to beer and liquor. Their contribution was to send pineapple juice overseas. Now the Headquarters Battery of the 11th Marines did not move around very much and being enterprising Marines contacted the WCTU seeking a supply of pineapple juice, which was successful. What the WCTU didn't know was that they had a still and were cooking the stuff!!
